I am done with my Yuletide nominations, finally. O_o;;; I was pretty happy with the idea of Island City, Jeremiah and Dark Visions, but then someone else went and nominated Dark Visions. Which was awesome, because it left me free to nominate something else, but... I choked. O_o;;; I had such trouble picking a third fandom that I almost didn't. But last minute I had a flash of nostalgia and checked out the fic totals for the Mighty Ducks movies and it's WELL under the 1000 fic limit. And dude... Mighty Ducks. *_* And on top of that, apparently less than a week ago, the Ducks HAD A REUNION and Marguerite Moreau did a ton of pictures and posted them all on Instagram. *wobble eyes*

Here's all the pictures:
Averman, Karp, Mendoza and Moreau, Flying V, Mendoza, Germaine, Moreau, Banks, Portman, Gunner Stahl, Goldberg, and last but not least... ConnieandGuy (OMG, I CAN'T, SHE ACTUALLY TAGGED IT THAT WAY. TT^TT)

(ETA: Oh gosh, there are more:
Everyone, Gaffney and Moreau, More ConnieandGuy, More group shots, Karp, Moreau, and I think the director? Seriously though. The gift that just keeps on giving. XD)

*coughs* So, yeah. There's my third nomination. And I feel ~mildly~ bad for not nominating her as a result, but... well. :-P Only four character slots. *sigh*

SO. Final noms go to...

Island City (1994)
Characters
Greg 23
Michael Mindy
Connie Sealle
Andy Sealle

Jeremiah (TV)
Characters
Markus Alexander
Jeremiah (Jeremiah)
Erin (Jeremiah)
Theo Coleridge

Mighty Ducks (Movies)
Characters
Guy Germaine
Adam Banks
Jesse Hall
Charlie Conway

Well, I guess it is. The brainstorming post is already up for Yuletide.

And here's mine.

And wow, narrowing this down to three was hard. Hard as in "I haven't yet managed it." -.-;;; So I'm nowhere near ready for a pimp post yet, but last year Yuletide MAJORLY caught me with my pants down and I'm trying this new thing where I try not to let things creep up on my like that. And the sooner I settle on these things, the faster I'll get a letter written and the less stressed I'll be. SO. In the interest of that... actually getting a comment on the brainstorming post is certainly a step in the right direction.

So, here's what I'm thinking of (I'm leaning very strongly towards the first three, but if anyone else is interesting in nominating the other three, I would certainly be grateful. ^_^):

Island City (1994)
1. Greg 23
2. Michael Mindy
3. Connie Sealle
4. Andy Sealle

Jeremiah (TV)
1. Jeremiah
2. Markus
3. Erin
4. Theo Coleridge

Dark Visions -- L. J. Smith
1. Gabriel Wolfe
2. Rob Kessler

Astropilots (Omni, No 1) -- Laura J. Mixon
1. Jason (Stiletto) McLeod
2. Sssrei
3. Andrea Ito
4. Tram (Oh darn. I forget his full name, I'll have to look it up. Vice Admiral Trammerden or something, I think? :-P)

Murphy's Lore Series -- Patrick Thomas
...there are honestly so many characters I'd want to nominate in this series I'm not even sure where to start. -.-;;;
1. John Murphy
2. Loki
3. Negrel
4. Hex
...just off the top of my head. -.-;;;

Red 2 (2013)
1. Victoria
2. Ivan
3. Sarah
rchan: (MD -- Dwayne -- more fun for me if you r)
I'm sitting in the lab, proctoring yet another exam and I'm bored out of my skull. I'd like to write, but the problem is... I've had caffeine and it's made me really, really jittery, so I'm not managing to settle and work on one of the things I should work on.

So... It's been a while since I've done a prompt day, so I thought I'd toss it out there. :)

How about something new and different?

Crossovers.

Give me two fandoms (and a character from each fandom) and a prompt word or phrase, and we'll see what my caffeine-twisted little brain can come up with. ^_~

Any fandoms tagged in the "fanfic" tags on the right are free game, as are any fandoms I've written for on AO3.

NaNo musing

rchan: (LM2012 -- My name is MARIUS Pontmercy)
OK. So, as I said, I'm not really doing NaNo because a) who has time? and b) I'm still afraid of burnout.

But, I think I am going to try something anyway. Lately I keep coming up with all these ideas for LM stories and, much like I once had going for Hair, I have sprawled out into a bunch of WIPs.

...which is highly inconvenient.

They're distracting and I don't have time for them.

SO. I think what I shall do is, in place of "doing" NaNo, I will do my best to finish off these WIPs I have sprawled everywhere. At the very least, I will write every day. Maybe a little. Maybe a lot. But I will write SOMETHING. And hopefully in the middle of all that, I will actually get my exchange stories done. I mean... it's not like one of them isn't due in LESS THAN TWO WEEKS. O_o;;; (But I've got a decent start on that one, at least, which is more than I can say for the other two. -.-;;;)

Also, (though I'll probably cave on this one and start counting anyway) I think I'm going to say "Fuck the word count." This isn't about number of words -- I KNOW I can rack that up if I want -- this is about FINISHING THINGS.

So, instead of posting word counts, I will borrow a trick from one of my favorite WIP memes and every day I will post a sentence from whatever writing I did that day.

I think that sounds like more fun. ^_^

So... here's to FiWriThiMo (Finish Writing Things Month)?

((ETA 10/20/13 12:47 PM -- OMG, author, I’m so sorry. I finally sat down to read this whole thing through and it was LITTERED with SPaG errors and sentences that didn't make sense and prompts and ideas which could have been worded MUCH better. I think I've caught most of the trouble spots now, if you want to give it a reread. Sorry, again! OTZ))

So... a general ahead of time warning… I'm a bit verbose. I usually don't know when to quit talking. So, uh… hope you're comfy? ^_^

And without any further ado…

Dear Yuletide Author,

First and foremost I'd like to offer up a huge "Thank You!!" to you for being willing to write a story for me. I know how difficult it can be to put any part of your creative process into the hands of another individual, so I will treat that trust with the care and respect it deserves by not being too greedy or selfish. I am already happy that you are willing to write a story for me in a fandom of my choosing and with characters of my choice. It would be the icing on the cake if you are willing to include my other requests, as well, but ultimately if they don't work for you, please feel free to ignore them. ^_^

Notes on rating, kink and general likes/dislikes )

Specific Requests (in no particular order):

(For some of these, I don't have specific prompts in mind. Having done these challenges before, I realize that can be both a blessing and a curse. :-P So, for those for which I have no prompt, I'll try to tell you what I like about those fandoms and characters to at least give you a little guidance. Of course, as mentioned above, you're welcome to ignore everything I say if it doesn't work for you. ^_~ Onward!)

Also… I want to add this as a disclaimer. The length of my babble for each fandom IN NO WAY indicates a preference level. For example, I'm going to be more verbose about Island City than the others, mostly because I'm assuming that no one else knows what it is… since no one offered it and no one else requested it. Other than that, length of verbosity has more to do with where I was when I wrote that segment of the letter and how many plotty thoughts I have on each show than on which one I like most. ^_^

You are free to utilize any prompt I toss out there or none of them. If reading what I like about the characters/worlds sparks a fic idea in your head, feel free to ignore the prompts and run with it. ^_^

1. Red 2 (2013) -- Victoria Winslow (Red 2), Ivan Simanov (Red 2), Sarah Ross (Red 2) )

2. Dark Visions - L. J. Smith -- Gabriel Wolfe, Rob Kessler )

3. Next to Normal - Kitt/Yorkey -- Gabe Goodman, Diana Goodman, Dan Goodman, Natalie Goodman )

4. Eight Days of Luke - Diana Wynne Jones -- David Allard, Luke (Eight Days of Luke) )

5. Island City (1994) -- Greg 23, Michael Mindy, Connie Sealle, Andy Sealle )

*deep breath* And I think that's it. Like I said, if any of the details I provided don't work for you, feel free to toss them out the window and write what's most comfortable for you. If you are happy and excited about what you're writing, I'm sure I will love it. Passion comes across and I do not in any way want to dampen yours. ^_^ I certainly won't object if you want to accommodate me in my far-too-verbose additional requests, but as stated many times, totally not a requirement. ^_^ Go with your gut. The fact that you're making something for me, at all, is plenty enough to have me thrilled and excited and bouncing for joy. ^_^

Thank you, again, and HAPPY YULETIDE! :D

...how about a meme? ^_^

Stolen from tumblr for those few of you who don't follow me there:

Condensed the meme:

Send me the title of one of my stories and I’ll either give you a snippet from it or tell you about the sequel that may or may not ever get written.

You can also ask for trivia, headcanons or missing scenes.

This looks like fun and I could use something to do between helping students in the lab. ^_^
Find me on:
AO3, ff.net, tumblr (look under fanfiction) or browse the snippets,
LJ: 1 / 2 and on my old archive chibis.net.

...good grief, I'm scattered all over the place, aren't I? O_o;;; Most everything on tumblr (apart from the snippets) is on AO3, as well. So, there's that, at least. ^_~

It's official, guys. I'm going to Canada in November! I have my flights and hotel booked and my tickets bought. I will get to hang out with [personal profile] redjacket and my tumblr friend doh-rae-me and see Aaron Walpole AND Ramin Karimloo play Valjean, and Earl Carpenter play Javert, and Melissa O'Neil play Eponine and Jonathan Winsby play Courfeyrac and I AM JUST SO EXCITED, OK? XD

Also, work has been keeping me hopping... a lot. Which is both good and not good. 6 day, 50-60 hour weeks do NOT sit right with me. At all. I've been running myself into the ground and I'm exhausted. So, I decided to resign from my Saturday morning job. I will not miss it and I am super glad to have finally reclaimed my weekend. ^_^ And the permanent sub job I picked up at a prestigious private school is a way better choice for classroom experience. ;) Also, my boss at the university has asked me to teach two sections of the class I teach next semester instead of one. Which is awesome and comes with more than twice the salary and some side-benefits like vision and dental, but I'm starting to feel like she's looking at me like a cow from whom she's getting free milk. *sigh* I WANT THAT FULL-TIME FACULTY POSITION, DAMN IT. :-P But, in the meantime, this is a step in the right direction, so I guess we'll just have to see.

Anyway, after all this running myself into the ground I've been doing, my friend C invited me to come see a show with her last night. On the one hand, I was exhausted and didn't want to be bothered going anywhere. On the other hand, we hadn't hung out in a while and I haven't been seeing many shows lately and I wanted to go.

So, I went. Thoughts on what we saw (Romeo and Juliet) below the cut. )

tl;dr?
There are some good things going on and some people I would highly recommend in their parts, but I'll be the last one to insist you should see Romeo and Juliet. ^_~

Well, guys. It's finally happened. I ran a deadline to ground and it beat me. I had a fic due for a ficathon 14 minutes ago... and it's not done. Reveals aren't for another week and I did warn the mod that I needed another day, but... yeah. Missed deadlines do NOT feel good. :( On the upside I only have like... one more scene to write and some editing to do before it's finished, but... still. That's no excuse.

OTOH, one of the reasons I missed said deadline was because [livejournal.com profile] zoicite and I got to see Hadley Fraser (possibly my favorite Grantaire ever and one of my biggest theatre crushes who I NEVER thought I'd get to see live) in a show tonight. And the show was awesome and he was awesome and I'm way too tired to speak coherently about it right at the moment. BUT! If you have a chance to see The Machine at The Armory... you totally should.

And on that note... I'm going to go try to wrap this thing up so I can get some sleep because I'm driving to freaking Rhode Island tomorrow (with my mother in the car) to see Josh Young in Evita BECAUSE I'M INSANE.

...and because I really, really want to see Josh play Che. But, that's besides the point. ;)

(Also, Aaron Tveit's new album? Pretty fucking amazing. ^_____________^ ...and, damn it, now I'm all asquee about Next to Normal, again. -.-;;;)
rchan: (Hair -- Puffing Kiss)
OK. I realize it's late and probably no one is awake to read this... but I'm randomly in the mood to write some porn and no one in particular is speaking to me.

Drop me a comment with a fandom/pairing? ^_~ You can leave an icon, too, if you like, but it's not necessary.

I've been having thinky thoughts this morning.

As some of you may know, I have this little Les Miserables obsession I've been cultivating for the past few months. And as part of any healthily growing Les Mis obsession, one begins to wonder about the book which started it all -- Les Miserables, affectionately called "The Brick", by Victor Hugo. These days, it's easy to pick it up free from B&N for the Nook, or Amazon for the Kindle, or simply off of Project Gutenberg. The point is, for someone only starting to dabble in the idea of reading that monstrosity, I wanted to dip my toes in first.

So, I did. )

Guys... look what happened this morning:

LMAO!

...I have such a dirty mind.

I feel like I want to write a smexy BJ fic to commemorate the occasion... but the one I want to write is a side story to my current Les Mis fic that won't make sense to anyone but me for at least another chapter or two.

*sigh* What to do, what to do? -.-;;;

Suggestions? ^_~
rchan: (Les Miserables -- Finally at your side)
I'll admit it. I have been truly atrocious at keeping up with LJ lately. -.-;;; It's probably due to the fact that tumblr has sucked me in big time and I'm spending a lot of my fannish energy over there. Not that that's an excuse. :-P

Anyway, I probably have a lot of RL stuff to catch you all up on (continuing job saga, NEW FOUNTAIN PENS, NEW GALAXY S4 PHONE OMG IT'S SO NEW AND SHINY AND FAST AND AMAZING, new show loves, etc.)... but TBH, I'm being lazy today and I don't feel like it. ^_~ Maybe some other day.

So, instead, how about a fic round-up and a prompt meme? Sound good? ^_^

Les Miserables -- Follow You, Follow Me; a.k.a. the Grantaire-gets-a-tumblr fic )

2. Vikings -- To Dance To His Tune; yet another Bjorn/Athelstan fic )

And now... what you all came here for? (Because I really don't have enough writing on my plate already and, YES, Not-For-Primetime-Fic-I-haven't-started, I do see you there and I do know you're due in like... a week. O_o;;;)

Writing Prompt Meme!

Use one of your favorite icons, and post a ONE WORD prompt with it in the comments. I will then write you a ficlet to go with it.

Any fandoms listed under my umbrella fic tag are fair game (can be found in convenient list form at the top of this page), as well as any fandoms found under a “fanfic: ” tag on my LJ or DW.
rchan: (YnM -- Tsupuppy -- xd_inc)
It's that time of year again, folks! Fic exchange time! :D Because there were just a few too many fandoms on this list that I couldn't ignore. ^_^

As noted in my last post, I have fallen head over heels in love with Vikings on the History Channel. I'm not entirely sure I care for some of what they did in the latest episode, but I'm hoping they'll smooth all that out in the finale. Anyway, I was smacked in the face by the EXTREMELY WRONG ship of Bjorn x Athelstan when I saw episode 6... and this happened. Set about 6 years in the future of canon (and now possibly AU past episode 7), because even when he's the one on top, I just can't write a ship involving a 12 year old. I CAN'T. -.-;;;

Athelstan was quiescent beneath him, now, no longer fighting, but Bjorn could tell from the line of tension in his frame that he hadn't exhausted himself just yet, hadn't truly surrendered. Bjorn moved his leg over, slid it between the other man's thighs, nudged gently upwards, testing. Athelstan jerked in his hold, once again began trying to throw him off. Bjorn just smiled and tightened his grip.

Wow. It's been a while, hasn't it? And I had promised myself I was going to do better about posting. *sigh* As usual, I beg distracted by RL and new fandoms. I've fallen headfirst in love into Vikings fandom-- Oh! Damn. I never posted that fic, either. *sigh*

Anyway, I've had this fic sitting unfinished on my computer for almost a year. When JCS closed, I think I just didn't quite have the heart to finish it. So, about a month ago, a friend prodded me, reminding me that I'd never finished this story. I almost dreaded looking at it, because I didn't even entirely remember what it was about and I knew I still had most of Act II to tackle and I just didn't want to. Then I reread it. And I fell in love with it and this show and this ship (these ships?) all over again. And then I realized that I really didn't have that much more I needed to write. So I did. ^_^

So, almost a year too late... enjoy? ^_^

(And for those of you who read it, Perchance to Dream grew out of a section in Chapter 3 of this fic and could be considered sequel-y to it if you were so minded. ^_~)

A little over a year ago, I started writing this monster. I moved fast and furious on it, spurred on by repeated visits to see JCS on Broadway. Then the show closed and I just... I didn't have the heart to finish it. Then a friend wrote an amazing JCS story and I got so wrapped up in her headcanon that I couldn't recapture my own... and didn't even want to try. Lately, however, I'd been poking at it, rereading bits here and there and when I turned to said friend to ask her what she'd pick for me to work on of all the WIPs I have going... this story came up. And I thought... "Huh. Why not?" And for the first time in a year, this story finally cooperated. O_O I'm not going to question it. I'm just going to be grateful. I am, however, editing as I go and I didn't get as far as I would have liked with the edits, but I got far enough to post a third, so this will probably go up in three parts. Enjoy?
